The Government We Deserve Part IV: Fighting for Liberty in a Nation of Sheep
Those looking for liberty need to fight for it themselves and stop looking towards elections as a solution
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”—Galatians 6:7-10
In Part I, Part II and Part III of this series, I’ve detailed how the American people absolutely desire the big authoritarian government we have, even when a majority call themselves Christian and a plurality call themselves conservative. I also detailed how useless the Republican Party is. And, I’ve detailed how tribalism is leading to our collapse.
We are most definitely reaping what we’ve sowed. We have the government we deserve. This is a nation of dependents, the land of the entitled, home of the enslaved.
So, does that mean all is lost? Of course not. But it means that the few of us who actually want liberty, and I mean very few, we need to do something different.
Part of it is in messaging. We have to have a message of liberty, and we have to be consistent. George Washington, in a letter to James Madison, wrote: “Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth.”
Another part of it is stop looking for political saviors. I already have a Savior; His name is Jesus Christ. At most, electing a politician should only be done for strategic purposes. Politicians cannot solve your problems. When they attempt to solve the problems, they just create more. We need to actually take responsibility for our own lives.
Understand, elections have little meaning if the people want this. Voting, at least at the federal level, is worthless. The system is corrupt to the core.
“You see, after years of trying to wake Americans up to the reality that there is no political savior who will save us from the police state, I’ve come to realize that Americans want to engage in the reassurance ritual of voting.”
“They want to believe the fantasy that politics matter.”
“They want to be persuaded that there’s a difference between the Republicans and Democrats (there’s not).”
“Some will swear that Donald Trump has been an improvement on Barack Obama (he is not). Others are convinced that Joe Biden’s values are different from Donald Trump’s (with both of them, money talks).”
“Most of all, voters want to buy into the fantasy that when they elect a president, they’re getting someone who truly represents the citizenry rather than the Deep State (in fact, in the oligarchy that is the American police state, an elite group of wealthy donors is calling the shots in cooperation with a political elite).”
“The sad truth is that it doesn’t matter who wins the White House, because they all work for the same boss: Corporate America. Understanding this, many corporations hedge their bets on who will win the White House by splitting their donations between Democratic and Republican candidates.”
“Politics is a game, a joke, a hustle, a con, a distraction, a spectacle, a sport, and for many devout Americans, a religion. It is a political illusion aimed at persuading the citizenry that we are free, that our vote counts, and that we actually have some control over the government when in fact, we are prisoners of a Corporate Elite.”
“In other words, it’s a sophisticated ruse aimed at keeping us divided and fighting over two parties whose priorities, more often than not, are exactly the same so that we don’t join forces and do what the Declaration of Independence suggests, which is to throw the whole lot out and start over.”
Advice for the Few Elected Officials Who Value Liberty
Prior to the midterm election, Ron Paul gave some advice to the, what was expected, Republican majority in Congress. At the time, Conservative, Inc. was still selling hopium that their precious GOP was going to have a red wave. Well, we’ve learned that the red wave did not happen, but the Republicans did take control of the House, not the Senate.
“First, Republican Party Leadership must vow to end the massive money spigot opened by the last Congress for Ukraine. By some estimates some $60 billion dollars have been authorized for Ukraine to fight a proxy war between the US/NATO and Russia….”
“Second, Republicans can signal that they will de-fund the Department of Homeland Security….”
“Finally, the third task an incoming Republican House and Senate can take is maybe the easiest one: pass the Audit the Fed bill. Ten years ago the US House voted in a bipartisan manner to pass my Audit the Fed legislation only to see it stall in the Senate. With Republican control of both houses of Congress there is no reason a broadly-supported bill to open the books at the Federal Reserve cannot find its way to President Biden’s desk. We all support transparency, right?”
I can’t say I disagree with any of that. I might have a different top 3 things, the top being eliminating every unconstitutional executive order by the office of president, first and foremost Donald Trump’s declaration of a state of emergency over a cold virus that remains in place under Joe Biden.
But as I stated above, the federal government is lost. It’s meaningless. And I believe Paul knows its meaningless, but we still need to put out the right prescriptions whether they’re heard or not. To know how meaningless it is, watch as the Republicans will keep every single garbage member of “leadership” in their place while promoting Kevin McCarthy, who colluded with Nancy Pelosi to unconstitutionally pass through the largest spending bill in human history by a voice vote, to Speaker of the House.
My advice is primarily for those elected officials at the state and local level who believe in liberty. For them, first recognize that you are part of an extreme minority. Even if you’re in a Republican dominated state, you are in the extreme minority.
Although there may be some Independents/Third-Party elected officials among you, most of you are probably Republicans. Understand this, the GOP is not your friend. You didn’t join a team. You have absolutely no allegiance to your party. You swore an oath to the Constitution, and you were elected to defend personal liberty, not advance the party agenda. While I’d prefer the Republican Party, the party-system in general, to die, if you’re going to run as a Republican, do so only as a tool to get elected.
You need to stand firm for liberty, no matter how it might affect your popularity. The “left” and the “right” both offer big government as the solution. So, understand the vast majority of those who voted for you do not want less government. But if they voted for you, then they’ll listen to you. So, you need to educate them on the errors of their ways when they demand you do this or do that as an elected official, and remind them that you’re there to get the government the heck out of their way.
Make sure the leadership of your party hears you. Do not let them relegate you. They need to grow a spine. They need to stand up to the federal leviathan. If they refuse to do so, never vote for them for “leadership.” And work to primary them. Again, don’t worry if it harms your “political career.” If you care about having a “political career,” then you’re the wrong person to be there in the first place.
Understand, almost every other politician around you is out solely for themselves. If liberty becomes a winning message, they’ll start voting that way.
Advice for the Few Americans Who Value Liberty
“Now, more than ever, it’s time for a reprioritization. The federal regime in the D.C. Beltway and its bureaucratic institutions remain the greatest threat to our liberties. Forget about China and Russia for a moment. Americans are being harmed from within, by a federal behemoth that continues to run roughshod over our lives and liberties….”
“A retooling of political priorities means bolstering sovereignty within your domain, and insulating your state from the federal government….”
“There is a clear path moving forward that involves harnessing local and state power structures to do everything possible to detach from the ruling empire. New economic (separating money from state), cultural, and political instruments will become the necessary tools to continue getting the federal government off of our backs.”
If elections have any meaning, it’s at the state and local level. Most state and local governments, whether “blue” or “red,” are already lost. But the thing is, this is the easiest level to win back what has been lost.
It is so far past time that Americans started really taking an interest in what’s going on in their local government. I wrote previously that there is no local control. Listen to your local village board, city council, etc. and you’ll likely hear them all on board with the “green” agenda, or they’ll use Agenda 2030 language about sustainability and public/private partnerships. Listen to your local school board, and you’ll hear them praise universal pre-school or talk about curriculum to educate future “global citizens.” And it does not matter what the political makeup of your local governing unit is.
Even more important than looking at what the local government is doing, look at what you’re doing in your own life. Are you self-reliant? Are you self-sufficient? Did you resist the medical tyranny?
We need to build and resist the tyrants who are trying to destroy us. And we have a very good example right here in America. The Amish have been building their own system while ignoring the authoritarian government along the way.
Sheriff David Hathaway, of Santa Cruz County, Arizona, noted the example given by the Amish and Conservative Mennonite. Hathaway wrote that they “won’t join the military, won’t accept social security, won’t accept Obamacare or Medicare, send back stimulus checks, won’t vote, won’t sit on a jury, won’t sue anybody, won’t run for office, don’t watch TV, won’t put their children in state schools, and don’t use internet connections except for mapping, weather, and email, etc. so that they don’t get affected by the lies perpetrated in the mass media.” He added:
“They want nothing from the state. Their motto could be described simply as ‘No King but Christ.’ They will not worship the principalities and powers of this world or promote their centrally-planned theft schemes or wars or salute the flags of the various regimes.”
“Parents teach their children to be friendly and hard-working. Their elders will not take payment for their services in the church congregations so as to avoid distortion of the scriptural message for gain and to avoid cults of personality. The ones that live the most like regular Americans are the Conservative Mennonites (as opposed to the Amish). They drive cars, have electricity, have cell phones, use power tools, etc. They aspire to be self-employed entrepreneurs and often run very successful family businesses. I have lived around and associated with this type of people for decades in the Southwest, Midwest, and in Latin America. They are not boobs. They are learned articulate people and know history and can speak about the separation of church and state and can give historical examples of the state co-opting churches/religion and society. Children attend home school or a private church school. Many people in these communities have German and Northern European roots, so they also display a low time preference and a vision towards the future for their families that is typical of traditional peoples from Northern cold climates as Hans Hermann Hoppe has pointed out. They also have large families which helps to perpetuate their anti-state ideas over the generations in these days of waning family size. The viability of these voluntarist communities would probably be appealing to many who are considering homestead living and want to avoid state entanglements.”
“These communities present a strong example of what has come to be known as ‘opting out.’ Opting out doesn’t end state plunder, but it is a means by which individuals or whole communities undermine the authority of the state peacefully and voluntarily. A little bit like a Free State Project, but with no focus on politics. Within these voluntary communities, there are zero public school students, zero military members, zero support for wars, and zero state-run courts. Disputes are handled privately by appealing to other brethren in the Church—not a state court, to wit….”
“You may think that these friendly people may be vulnerable to tyrants, but surprisingly, they mostly get left alone because the state parasite always seeks philosophical support from the host. These people will never lend their moral support to the state….”
“The majority of Americans use the label ‘Christian,’ but don’t use the tools in the Bible that would remove many state influences from their lives and their communities.”
I will note, the Amish and Conservative Mennonites do fail in one important Biblical command for Christians which is to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). But that doesn’t mean they’re wrong about how they’ve built their own societies. In contrast is the average American “Christian” who is not in the world but of the world in contradiction of what they called to do in Romans 12:2.
We need to build our own parallel societies and shine the light of what can be built when liberty reigns. We can still go out to the rest of society and seek and save the lost, but we’ve got to get our own acts together before we’ll bear fruit.
Andrew Torba, CEO of Gab, wrote:
“Voting harder isn’t going to cut it. We have to build. The existing system will collapse. It’s not a matter of if, but when. When that happens, we need to have Christian infrastructure in place to fill the power vacuum. The Amish have had it right this entire time. Their communities are growing and thriving. They will continue to do well. We must become a form of neo-Amish, building sovereign communities and families away from Babylon. Technology is okay and a good tool. It’s something we can use to our advantage to communicate, build, and engage in commerce with one another.”
“We are the new pilgrims. We must move to deep red states, push them further right, build, and secure a future for our families. Forget politics at the national level. That rigged game is over. Focus on state and local elections, not what is going on in DC.”
“Conservatism has failed. It has been trying to conserve a country and a culture that is never coming back and has long been gone. The future of the West depends on those of us who are going to build. Build our own infrastructure, our own families, our own communities, our own parallel economy, and our own strongholds of deep red states. We’ll build a wall around the borders of those states if that’s what it comes to. We need to accept exile from Babylon and get to work.”
“Imagine if you took all the energy you wasted focusing on the midterm election circus for the last six months and started a business, learned a new skill, built something with your hands, or grew a ton of food in a garden. Shift your focus and energy to building wealth, sovereignty, and security for your family. Many people on Gab did this and are doing this right now.”
“As someone who has been building for six years now, I’m not going to tell you this is easy. I myself got caught up in the midterms despite knowing that the deck was stacked against us. I won’t make that same mistake again.”
“Thousands of families are starting and growing businesses in the Parallel Economy on Gab. You can view many of them here. I encourage you to support them and I encourage you to support us on our journey to build a parallel economy and the free speech infrastructure to support and maintain it. You can do so by upgrading to GabPRO, buying merchandise from our shop, or running ads on Gab to grow your business.”
“Finally, I want to remind you not to despair. Jesus Christ is on the throne. We are His people, the actual Chosen People–of every race, nation, and creed. We have and will continue to overcome the challenges of history in the face of evil and His Kingdom will continue to advance as we disciple all nations.”
